Andy Youell from Cheltenham, is a keen fan and aficionado of vintage Premier drums. In recent months, he has utilised the services of Baskey Vintage on a number of occasions, here’s what he has to say;

“Premier’s Resonator drums went out of production many years ago and finding individual drums is nigh-on impossible. To expand my kit I tracked down a couple of Premier toms from the period and sent them across to Baskey Vintage to have the full Resonator treatment. Using both new materials and salvaged parts, my 12 and 15 inch toms were transformed to Resonators that could have left the factory yesterday. In addition to fitting the Resonator inner-shell, they also replaced the P badges with the exact design to match the rest of the kit, added a Resonator black stripe and a genuine Resonator tag. The workmanship and finish is superb and these two drums sit at either end of the kit.

The team at Baskey Vintage have been an invaluable help to me as I restored and expanded my early 80s Resonator kit. Not only is Mike Ellis the ultimate Premier expert (he quotes Premier part numbers in his sleep......er....apparently) but Baskey provide a range of spare and replacement parts for vintage Premier drums that transform the pile of old drums into the true collectors classic.

The Premier 252 pedal is a classic and is becoming highly sought after by drummers looking for that silky-smooth action and the tank-like build quality. The straps on the pedals are their weakness and, after nearly 40 years, very few are in a usable state. Although the later pedals had metal linkages, the early strap models are the ones to go for and the Baskey replacement straps take the original design and improve it by using a modern material that is both lighter and more flexible. My 252 is now better than it ever was.

Although the chrome plating on the Trilok hardware is virtually indestructible, the red TRILOK badges rarely stood the test of time. The Baskey Vintage replacements provide that finishing detail to my project. Premier drums of the 70s and 80s featured the unique Premier 'donut' heads. I got a set of Baskey Vintage’s 'donut dots' for the kit and applied them to the clear resonant heads. I was instantly transported back to the 1980 catalogue - delight!”
